This Week

  • LARGE GROUP (February 22nd, 5:00pm)Food provided; we're having TexMex! Movie starts at 6:00! Run time 72 minutes.
    • Synopsis: Pray the Devil Back to Hell is a documentary from 2008 about the Liberian Civil War and details the efforts made by a woman-led, interfaith, nonviolent protest group led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Leymah Gbowee. Their work saved many lives, elected Africa’s first female president, and helped support those struggling from the mass carnage inflicted by the war. The film does not shy away from the extreme violence of the Liberian Civil War. It features footage and vivid descriptions of the bodies of those killed in the war, child soldiers, civilian chaos, and discusses the sexual violence women faced in this war. That being said, it is a powerful story about successful nonviolent action despite the men in power profiting from violence.
