This Week (8/29-9/5)
- Queer Students Welcome Mixer (8/30): on the Crim Dell meadows from 6-9pm. There will be snacks/desserts AND a (tentative) bonfire! We'll be right across from the willow tree next to Sunken. Come be gay with us! (Allies are also welcome, of course).
- S’mores with S’Methodists (8/31): Our signature first event of the semester is back this Sunday, August 31st. Dinner will be at 5:00 PM, with gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options. Roasting marshmallows on Wesley’s front yard will follow from 6:00-7:00.
- Ryan’s Roaming Hours (9/2): Wesley’s campus minister, Ryan LaRock, will be in Sadler’s Lounge 1 from 11:30-1:30. Enjoy a chat about faith, school, and more with a complimentary coffee (or other sold drink of your choice) when you stop by! His roaming hours are now every Tuesday.
More Wesley Events and Announcements
- Small Group: Our SG leader Eira will be starting this semester’s Wesley Small Group weekly meetings soon on a date TBD. We are still figuring out what day of the week works best to meet. The focus will be on Marcus J. Borg’s Convictions: How I Learned What Matters Most, wherein Borg recounts what underscored the foundations for his faith: hope and transformation.
- Worship at Wesley!: We are still working on figuring out a date and time per week for our weekly services at Wesley this year. Worship services tend to last 30-45 minutes, with a sermon from Ryan, singing, scripture reading, and optional communion for all.
- Brandan Robertson’s Queer & ChristianBook Signing (9/18): Wesley is thrilled to be hosting the Reverend Brandan Robertson as a stop on his new book tour! Students, mark your calendar for this free event, and share with your friends! A book signing and light reception will follow!
- Volunteer at Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society (9/20): Wesley will be providing free lunch and transportation to all who want to join us as we volunteer at an animal shelter here in Williamsburg. Play with dogs and cats, bring them toys, and meet new friends on this awesome service opportunity!
- Heritage Humane Society Crafts: Over the past semester, we have been making dog toys here at Wesley for the Heritage Humane Society. We are continuing to make toys as well as preparing to drop-off these creations for our canine friends to enjoy!
